This piece is intended to be played by one performer, who both sings and plays violin. Though this is the preferred mode of performance, the piece can be performed by two different performers. The violin part does not require very much violin training beyond bowing. The most important thing is the ability of the performer to be sensitive to how the sounds are made.
The piece consists of
four short movements. The notation for each movement consists of three elements:
1. a textual description of the idiom for that movement
2. notated descriptions of the sounds used in that movement
3. audio-visual clips of the sounds used in that movement
This notation consitutes a controlled framework for improvisation. The performer should internalise the idiom for each movement and memorise the sounds. How these elements function locally is up to the individual performer.
Each of the movements should last for ca. 3-4 minutes, and the performer should pause for 20-30 seconds between movements.
